Heidi Beckenbauer, the widow of late German football legend Franz Beckenbauer, is set to carry the Euro 2024 trophy onto the pitch at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, during the tournament's opening ceremony on Friday.

She will be accompanied by Jürgen Klinsmann, winner of the European Championship (Euro 1996) with the German national team, and Bernard Dietz, winner of Euro 1980 with the "Die Mannschaft," before the opening match of Euro 2024 between Germany and Scotland.

Klinsmann and Dietz were captains of the German national team when they won the title, while Beckenbauer was the captain when the Germans won their first European Championship title in 1972.

Beckenbauer, an icon of German football and Bayern Munich, passed away on January 7th at the age of 78.
