Borussia Dortmund, the German Bundesliga runners-up and Champions League finalists, announced the departure of head coach Edin Terzic on Thursday.
"Dear Borussia Dortmund fans, although it pains me deeply, I would like to inform you today that I have decided to leave Borussia Dortmund," Terzic said in a statement on the club's official website.
"It has been a great honor for me to lead this great club to victory in the DFB-Pokal and recently to the Champions League final."
Terzic added, "Immediately after the Champions League final, I requested a meeting with the board because I had the feeling that after 10 seasons at the club, someone else should have a fresh start."
According to local media, Terzic's assistant, Nuri Sahin, is a candidate to replace him.
