Veteran defender Mats Hummels leaves Borussia Dortmund after 13 seasons, following the unexpected resignation of coach Edin Terzic.

Veteran German defender Mats Hummels has left Borussia Dortmund after 13 seasons with the club. Hummels' departure comes a day after the unexpected resignation of coach Edin Terzic. During his two stints with Dortmund, Hummels won the league title twice, the cup twice, and reached the Champions League final in 2013 and 2024.

He also won the league three times with Bayern Munich between 2017 and 2019. Hummels expressed his gratitude to the fans and the club for the opportunity to play for Dortmund for so long.

Although selected for the continental team of the season, Hummels was not called up for the European Championship. He had criticized Terzic's tactics before the final, favoring a more defensive approach over an attacking one.

Hummels has expressed his desire to continue playing, preferably in Germany to be close to his son in Munich. Reports suggest that AC Milan is interested in signing him.
