Spain Extends Coach de la Fuente's Contract Until 2026

Spain's football federation extends coach Luis de la Fuente's contract until 2026, solidifying his leadership through the next World Cup.

The Spanish Football Federation confirmed on Tuesday the extension of the contract of the national team coach Luis de la Fuente until 2026.

The formalization of the agreement, which was announced last February, means that de la Fuente and his coaching staff will be responsible for the national team until 2026, the year of the next World Cup in North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico).

"The Spanish Football Federation has informed the national coach of the actual agreement to renew his contract, as announced in February, as well as the renewal of his technical staff," the Spanish federation said in a statement.

De la Fuente was appointed in December 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique after Spain's elimination from the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by Morocco.

De la Fuente's contract was theoretically supposed to end on June 30th, in the middle of the European Championship in Germany, but it included an extension clause that was activated.

Since taking charge, de la Fuente has led the Spanish team to win the 2023 Nations League and qualify for the European Championship, where they will play in Group B with the defending champions Italy, Croatia, and Albania.

Under his leadership, the Spanish national team has achieved nine victories in 13 matches, along with two draws and two losses.
